Santa Fe Gets Mid-Cycle Refresh

• All-new R 2.2 Diesel, advanced 6-speed auto
• Updated petrol engines
• Lower CO2 emissions
• Improved rollover protection

The ever-popular Santa Fe gets a new lease of life thanks to new powertrains and a refreshed interior and exterior. With an all-new diesel and updated petrol engines, the SUV emits significantly lower levels of CO2 emissions.

Equipped with Hyundai’s new R 2.2-liter diesel engine, the Santa Fe emits just 176g/km of CO2 when configured with 4WD and the new six-speed manual gearbox, a marked improvement from 191g of a comparably-equipped, earlier-edition Santa Fe. The 2.2 has a maximum output of 197PS and peak torque of 43kg.m between 1800 and 2500 rpm.

For customers preferring petrol power, the four-cylinder Theta-II 2.4-liter engine delivers 174PS. All engines are Euro-V compliant, with the R2 diesel featuring a particulate filter in selected markets. All engines are available with the latest six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

Fuel Economy Innovations
For optimal fuel economy, the new Santa Fe is fitted with a new alternator management system, which disengages the alternator when the clutch is suppressed, allowing it to spin freely, thus eliminating drag.

The "ECO" coach is a new feature designed to promote fuel-saving driving habits. When fitted to the six-speed automatic derivative, the "ECO" icon uses red, white or green lights to indicate fuel efficiency. The manual transmission has an icon positioned on the LCD tripmeter screen that flashes when the optimum gear shift point is reached.

Other fuel-saving innovations include the fitment of a rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics and silica compound tires, which offer lower rolling resistance.

Safety Enhancements
To reduce the risk of accidents while moving in reverse gear, an optional rear-view camera is built into the spoiler. The image from the camera is displayed on an LCD colour display, integrated into the rear-view mirror.

In addition, a new rollover sensor triggers the side airbags and seatbelt pretensioners in the event the vehicle is overturned. Active headrests are now standard on all trim levels and in most markets so is the Electronic Stability Program.

Exterior

Revisions to the exterior have been kept to a minimum. A three-slatted body-coloured radiator grille replaces the two-slat matte black grille. Front and rear bumpers, headlamps, fog lamps and rear combinations lamps have also been refreshed. New wheel designs, side garnish, sportier exhaust tips and streamlined roof racks provide crowning touches.

Interior
The most apparent change to the interior is the new Supervision instrument gauge cluster and built-in navigation system. A rear view camera is available as an option with the navigation system or electro chromic mirror.

The base level GL trim features fashionable zebra wood accents and seats upholstered with a new woven cloth. While the GLS spec has luxurious textured seats with mesh raschel fabric, and carbon black accents provide a modern hi-tech look.

A new ionizer eliminates bad odours in the cabin which are caused by the build-up of fungus in the climate control system.

Trim Levels and Options
Santa Fe will be offered in two trim levels: GL and GLS. Options exclusive to the GLS spec include a tire pressure monitoring system (on the 18-inch wheels option only), auto-levelling Xenon headlamps with washers, and a proximity key with push-button start.
