Hyundai i-flow showcases new technologies at Goodwood
Offenbach, July 12th 2010
Hyundai took the opportunity to highlight its latest technologies and design ideas at the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed recently (1-4 July). The FoS-TECH Technology Pavilion showcased innovative concept cars from all over the world, with Hyundai’s pioneering i-flow joining offerings from other leading brands.
Also known as the ¡°motor show of the future¡± the FoS-TECH area presents bold and exciting ideas and technologies from car manufacturers, design specialists and motor industry suppliers with a strong emphasis on eco-friendly transport and personal mobility. Over 175.000 visitors to the festival were afforded the opportunity to ¡°step into the automotive future¡± and discover how global automakers intend to create an environmentally-sustainable future for the industry.
The futuristic i-flow, designed at Hyundai¡¯s European technical centre, boasts CO2 emissions and fuel consumption figures of just 85g/km and 3l/100km, respectively. Hyundai¡¯s first diesel hybrid powertrain is a key factor in delivering such an environmentally-conscious return, as is the application of next-generation materials and technologies developed in cooperation with leading chemical company BASF.
For example, the i-flow is fitted with thermal engine encapsulation. By retaining heat when the car is idle, this new feature ensures that the engine reaches optimum operating temperature more quickly. Where a non-insulated engine would take three hours to drop to 40¢ªC, the i-flow will stay above that temperature for 14 hours. This translates into fuel savings and emissions cuts of 5 per cent during summer and up to 9 per cent during winter.
Allan Rushforth, Vice President at Hyundai Motor Europe, said, ¡°The FoS-TECH Technology Pavilion at Goodwood provided an excellent opportunity for visitors to experience innovative concept cars from all over the world.
¡°The ground-breaking technologies found in the i-flow concept all fall under our Blue Drive eco-initiative. Blue Drive remains at the heart of Hyundai¡¯s product development strategy, and continues to drive the company towards its target of global leadership in environmentally-sensitive technologies,¡± Rushforth concluded.
